This perhaps would have been better suited for the TWiT forums but I didn't want to have to bother with the donation-driven registration process just to get one thing off my chest.

I have recently become a TWiT podcast listener and fan. In fact, TWiT is the first podcast I began listening to as I have only recently begun listening to podcasts in general. What brought me into the podcast fold was the recent additions to the Playstation Portable's firmware (2.6+) that enabled the ability to subscribe to RSS feeds for audio podcasts (and now video podcasts as of ver. 2.8) which can be streamed or downloaded straight to the PSP via Wifi. It's a fantastic upgrade that makes the PSP a self-contained podcast aggregator, no connection to a PC necessary.

With this perspective in mind, I have been listening to your recent TWiT podcasts with interest as you've discussed the future of podcasts/netcasts and the impact that iPod and now Zune can/will have on this form of content delivery. So I've been somewhat dismayed to hear that the PSP isn't factored in at all, or that you don't try to make it into a factor, much like how you are trying to turn netcast into a relevant alternative to podcast. While I listen to you talk about how Zune's wifi implementation is hobbled and imposes excessive DRM measures, wonder why MS seems to be dragging their heels over the support of simple RSS subscriptions, and voice concern over how much Apple will commandeer the concept of "podcasting" for themselves in the eyes of the public through copyright, I can't help but think that the PSP currently provides a compelling alternative to all of this that I'm surprised more of the podcaster community isn't heralding as such.

Granted, Apple is the currently the dominant player in this space almost by default and MS is an 800lb gorilla you want to watch whenever they enter a new market, but Sony has quietly offered a set of features that address several of the inadequacies in either Apple's or MS's current approach. And the PSP has sold at least 15 million units since it launched almost 2 years ago which certainly gives it a faster sell-through rate than the iPod had in its first 2 years on the market and will be interesting to see how long it would take Zune to match those numbers, if it ever does in its current implementation.

So, when regarding the future of netcasting, I think you may be doing a disservice by not factoring in a device like the PSP that has already started traveling down a path you'd like to see iPod and Zune travel and has the potential to bring more attention to netcasting than you're giving it credit for.

Having said all that, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on why the PSP is not considered a more relevant factor, why it isn't endorsed more among podcasters.

Leo Laporte World Tour 2006?

I just noticed on http://claimid.com/leo That Leo did a tour and came to my city in 2005. The term NetCasting can be used as a banner for both Audio and Video, given the tight links that seem to have been created in the community.

Audio/NetCast
Video/NetCast

It would make the media seem easier to understand and would allow a ‘NetCast’ forum to open that would cover all of the different type of programming and distribution.

I guess this is going to bounce around, but Podcast does link it to the Apple player and given the massive amount of devices on the market, a generic term would be nice.

Kind Regards,
Kudos even!
It's very nice to see TWiT gaining mainstream recognition, as well as retaining it's iSuperhighway cred. Imho it's well deserved. Thank you for all you give; best wishes and much luck to the whole network.
I would like to address one concern to you, though, Leo. Your network tagline is very appropriate, but it seems to clash with the style of your advertising. I don't begrudge you having sponsors, nor advertisements--obviously y'all deserve to be paid and subscriptions would run off far too many people. Frankly, though, if I may be blunt without offending, the way you try to integrate the ads in with the conversation is really offensive to me. It feels utterly phony and smarmy and really, really distasteful.
Until you started doing that, I'd never gotten sick of a single podcast, but recently, I have had to shut off several. The obvious falseness of you shilling for the corporate overlords is very grating on my nerves, and raises my hackles to the point where I have to turn it off just so I don't wind myself up in reaction. Perhaps I'm in the minority; I don't know how representative I am, but the quality of my objection is pretty strong. The way you personally endorse the sponsoring companies seems so obsequious, so sycophantic--like such a transparent suck up--that it undermines your credibility for being "people I trust" and compromises the experience of "podcasts I love".
I understand that placing ads into the body of the podcast makes them more valuable to the advertisers, as it helps ensure that people don't skip over them. Could you please, though--please, please, please!--do some kind of a more formal ad. Write copy and then read it; do separate ads and edit them into the middle; anything just so it isn't that informal dreck. Please.
I really hope you read this. Listening to the DGW has been one of the bright spots in my day, and along with TWiT and the others you've really given me the feeling that you are intelligent, rational people that I relate to. I've enjoyed the shows very much. Please don't take that away.
And thank you again for all you give; it really is much appreciated at this end.

So, I'm wondering, how representative are my feelings?
